Bonfire Collages

Just a quick blog to show you the lovely bonfire collages the children made last week.  We started off by painting some lolly sticks with brown paint.  When they were dry, we stuck them down onto some black card using PVA glue and then added some red, orange and yellow feathers to look like flames coming up from the fire wood.

The children then added some blobs of PVA glue around the bonfire and added glitter to make little fireworks in the distance.  I think you will agree they turned out really well.  The feathers really look like flames and the children loved making them.

Firework Cupcakes

The children made these sparkly cupcakes today for Bonfire night.  They really enjoyed adding all the hundreds and thousands and glittery balls!  They made the perfect little treat to eat whilst watching the fireworks.

We used my usual easy peasy cupcake receipe...

Ingredients
  • 225g (8oz) Unsalted butter, softened
  • 225g (8oz) caster sugar
  • 225g (8oz) self-raising flour
  • 1tsp baking powder
  • 4 eggs
  • 2tbsp cocoa powder
  • 100g (3.5oz) chocolate chips
  • Icing sugar and cocoa powder for topping
1. Preheat oven to 180°C (350°F/Gas mark 4)  Line a bun tray with 18-24 paper baking cases.

2. Place the butter, caster sugar, flour, baking powder, eggs and cocoa powder in a large mixing bowl and beat with an electric whisk for 2-3 minutes, or until well combined.  Stir in the chocolate chips, spoon the mixture into the paper cases and bake for 18 minutes, or until well risen.  Transfer to a wire rack to cool.

Makes 24
When the cakes were cooled, I covered the tops of them with chololate icing. We then decorated them with every cake decoration we could find in my baking cupboard! Hundreds and thousands, chococolate strands, multicoloured strands, silver balls... you name it.  It all went on top of the cakes!
They went out with a bang!
